International Support, Better Image Options & More
1 month agoThe Goodsie development team just rolled a new release of the Goodsie codebase. I’m happy to report that besides numerous behind the scenes tweaks and enhancements, we have some pretty major new features that we’ve added:
Better Image Support
We really enhanced the support that we have for product images for store owners. We’d gotten a lot of feedback from people wanting to sell photographs or other items that require really high quality images. So for starters, we’ve changed our image resizing algorithms to make much better quality images. Of course the best images will be created when you update the best/highest quality original that you can to us!
But we also decided that often seeing the smaller web-sized images isn’t enough so now inside of any product lightbox and/or detail page where an image is shown, we’ve provided options to see the original quality image. Shoppers can now see a fullscreen lightbox, use a cool JavaScript based detail zooming tool, or have direct image access:
Non-Flash File Uploader
We made a decision a while back to make our website as HTML5 compatible as possible. This meant removing any Flash elements from our website. We did that for fonts a while ago switching to using WebFonts. But not we just erased the last remnant of flash, our file uploader. We’ve implemented a JavaScript based file uploader that still gives the enhanced/simple/one-click experience that we want for people uploading files, without the need to use a Flash application to achieve it!
International Support
The #1 support request on GetSatisfaction for us ever since we launched the beta, has been to provide international support. Our original US-only mindset simply wasn’t going to cut it and was very shortsighted of us. So we all chipped in and got full international support put in place. This is evident in two areas in particular.
First of all, simply enough, we now allow for international addressed to be entered by store owners:
Just as important though, we now also have international currency support. Your Goodsie store can choose to interact in any one of 23 currencies. This depends upon the payment system(s) that you choose however. Amazon Payments only supports US Dollars, Google Checkout supports both US Dollars and UK Pounds Sterling. Paypal however supports the full list of 23 currencies.
Simply use the new ‘Currency’ dropdown in your store settings page and instantly all prices in your store will be displayed as being in that particular currency. When a shopper goes to check out, the payment service will automatically do currency conversion into that shoppers local currency!
We hope that you really enjoy these features, we are constantly working on adding things and have no end of ideas. Please keep the feedback coming on GetSatisfaction!
